Throatlatches

Our headpieces, except for the Hunter bridles', are designed without a throatlatch.

The reason? The throatlatch originates from the war times when the horses were used on the battlefields; the throatlatch was hardly tightened to avoid the enemy pulling off the bridle. Nowadays, the throatlatch does not have any actual function in the bridle.

Using a throatlatch is not a must when show jumping, but several federations require it at dressage competitions. Therefore, we offer throatlatches separately, so you can easily attach it at the browband's Click It™.
